Can Ginseng Improve Your Quality of Life?

Stress can have significant detrimental effects on the overall wellbeing of an individual. This occurs because the hormonal changes that follow exposure to stress negatively affect the internal milieu and this can decrease both physical and mental performance. Adaptogenic herbs, including Panax ginseng, can attenuate these negative effects by reducing circulating levels of stress hormones, and thereby allowing the individual considerable improvements in well being. For example, in one study, researchers administered supplements containing ginseng 115 extract along with vitamins and minerals to a group of generally healthy individuals for 12 weeks. The results of the study showed that the study participants had significant improvements to their general well being, alertness, relaxation and appetite. In those subjects with the lowest overall well being at baseline, the supplements also improved their depressed mood and increased their vitality. Panax ginseng along with good nutrition may therefore significantly improve well being.
