Euphorbia neriifolia: Anxiolytic Herb

weight lossEuphorbia is a large group of trees and shrubs. Euphorbia neriifolia is one species that may have particular pharmacological activity in animals and humans. Common names for Euphorbia neriifolia include sehund or thohar in Hindi, as the plant is found growing throughout India and is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine. Studies have investigated the effects of Euphorbia neriifolia on anxiety in animals. For example, in one study, researchers administered leaf extracts of the herb to mice and rats and then exposed the animals to experimental stress. The result of the study showed that the mice and rats exhibited significantly less anxious behaviour following consumption of the leaf extracts of Euphorbia neriifolia when compared to rats and mice receiving no treatment. The researchers concluded that the Euphorbia neriifolia extracts were significantly effective at reducing anxiety in the animals.
