A Healthy Lifestyle: Stress Avoidance Is Key

Nutrition is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It is one of the central pillars of health and poor nutrition is known to cause the development of a number of serious diseases. However, nutrition is just one component of a number of factors that are required for a healthy life. Another central pillar of good health is the avoidance of chronic and excessive stress. Stress is a normal part of all organisms lives, and living systems are provided with machinery to protect them from stress. Humans have physiological systems that allow adaptation to the application of stress, and these function daily without conscious awareness. However, when stress becomes chronic or excessive, these systems can become overwhelmed and fail, and this leads to the development of mental and physical disease. Nutrition can increase the ability to withstand stress and to help recovery from it. Certain herbs can also limit the damage caused by stress by increasing stress resistance, and perhaps the most well known of these is ginseng.
