Targeted Nutrition

Many people suffer from conditions that are not able to be diagnosed specifically by medical experts. Such idiopathic conditions are quite common in the Western nations and people often put them down to aches and pains that are associated with ageing. In some cases this may be true, and such pains can include skeletal and muscular injuries, muscle tightness or wear and tear caused by overuse. However, such ageing pains may still have an identifiable cause, even if that was some time ago in the person’s history. More insidious perhaps are the truly unidentifiable maladies that are often caused by chronic low levels of essential micronutrients and other health factors that are absent in the diets of many. While deficiencies of essential micronutrients cause specific identifiable diseases, chronic low levels below optimal but above the deficiency range, as would be common in the Western diet, may cause disease and ill health that takes many decades to manifest, and because of the timescale, have no obvious cause.

Diseases and ill health caused by chronic low levels of particular essential micronutrients are common in Western populations As Joel Wallach famously said, all people who die of natural causes, die from nutritional deficiencies. As we age the absorption of nutrients decreases and the efficiency of body system declines such that essential micronutrient deficiencies becomes more likely. The strategy is therefore to eat the healthiest diet possible to supply optimal levels of micronutrients, and in this way prevent and delay the onset of disease, and by doing so add life to your years and years to your life. A healthy diet along with particular supplements is the best way to achieve this, and the benefits of such a healthy diet cannot be overstated. From cradle to grave this diet should be followed in order to provide the optimal amounts of all essential micronutrients, along with the correct amounts and ratios of other factors that are beneficial to the health. In this way most people should be able to stay healthy throughout their life.

However, if you are new to good eating and have already developed maladies that have no obvious cause, it is important to work with a nutritionist to identify possible solutions. While medical experts are trained to identify certain diseases and conditions, they receive no training to identify subtle nutritional ailments, many of which they are unaware of having nutritional causes. For such conditions, it is highly important that targeting nutrition is used to quickly redress that imbalance and return the individual to a state of health. If, for example a suboptimal intake of essential fatty acids is causing poor skin, it is no use taking vitamin E. Likewise if poor skin cause by a zinc deficiency is present, there is no use taking essential fatty acids. Targeting nutrition is required to provide health, and therefore to obtain true health one must because in tune with the needs of your own body. This means supplying the correct nutrients in the correct amounts as and when the body requires them.
