Too little, Too Late?

The link between good nutrition and health is very well established from both the scientific literature and traditional medicine. Many foods have healing properties and some foods act as medicines. However, there is an inherent requirement for good health that care must be taken to the body at all times and that good nutrition is reliant on the consistency of the individual. Once disease has developed it is much more difficult to return to health using good nutrition, than it is if good nutrition is followed consistently. Too often individuals turn to particular healing foods or plant based medicine once a disease has developed, and under such circumstances it is not always certain that the path followed will elicit the desired result. Certain forms of cancer for example can be prevented through healthy eating and the evidence for this is strong. However, it is less well evidenced that nutrition is effective once cancer has developed and progressed past the initial stages. Therefore careful consideration should be given to the content of the diet over the long term, starting as young as possible in order to develop good eating practices.
