Should You Alter Your Protein Intake Daily?

Protein intake is a controversial subject because there are many opinions on how much protein is required daily. It is known that physical activity can significantly increase the requirement for protein and so athletes and those involved in hard physical activity may benefit from an increased protein intake. This protein is used to repair damaged muscle tissue that can result from physical activity. There is an argument that protein intake should be manipulated daily in order to reflect the degree of physical activity performed. On a day with significant activity, increasing protein intake may have benefits at increasing recovery rates. Likewise, the day following physical activity, increasing protein intake may improve recovery. On days where no physical activity is performed, or has been performed on the previous day, a lower protein intake may suffice. By manipulating protein in this way, the requirement needed for adequate muscle recovery is supplied, without the expense of consuming unnecessary amounts of protein.
