Nutritional Timing

Nutritional timing refers to the times at which a person eats. Generally there are no clear rules about nutritional timing as everyone is different. However, one or two loose rules can be associated with nutritional timing. Generally, eating late has been evidenced to increase the risk of weight gain. Metabolism tends to be quicker during the morning and slows towards the evening. Therefore eating late can be counterproductive. However, if one was to train in the evening, then evening meals may not be so detrimental. The general rule to eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch, and a pauper at supper is based on this principle and could be considered to be sage advice. Eating more energy around physical activity sessions also makes sense as at this point more energy is required and so should be supplied. In particular, there is a requirement for protein and carbohydrate following activity. Breakfast is an important meal, particularly if an individual has a physically demanding job.
