Can You Overeat High Quality Food?

One problem encountered by those who wish to lose weight is that they cannot stop overeating. This is based on the assumption that to lose weight, an individual must eat less. However, this premise is erroneous. Firstly, low quality food, consumed by most individuals, can cause weight gain without overeating. This is because low quality food, particularly if it contains sugar, causes metabolic disturbances that lead to expansion of adipose tissue. However, low quality food is also more likely to be over consumed because it has drug-like effects, which results in the food being addictive. In contrast, high quality foods do not have drug-like effects and so it is much more difficult to over consumed them. In addition, high quality food does not cause metabolism disturbance and so does not facilitate adipose tissue expansion. Those that eat high quality foods therefore do not have to consciously think about food consumption because normal appetite regulator mechanisms will allow maintenance of normal appetite and body weight.
